Great Basin Western Art Foundation
The Great Basin Western Art Foundation is a fund associated with the Northeastern Nevada Museum in Elko, Nevada. The goal of the foundation is to collect, preserve, and display visual art specific to the Great Basin region and to Western Culture.
A Legacy of Art and Conservation
The spirit and mystique of the old west is alive today in Elko. This is due, in great part, to the active ranching economy and bustling rodeo community that surrounds our high-desert town. The purpose of the Great Basin Western Art Foundation is to capture and present that culture through Art.
The Great Basin Western Art Foundation aims to generate funds that will aid in building a western and regional art collection at the Northeastern Nevada Museum.
The annual Art of the West show exhibits in conjunction with the National Cowboy Poetry Gathering held in Elko the last week of January. If the exhibition has artwork that is available for purchase, the Great Basin Western Art Foundation acquires one piece from the show for Northeastern Nevada Museum’s permanent western art collection. Members of the foundation vote on which piece to purchase. Voting takes place by mailed ballot.
